Sir - Every year about the time of the Grand National & Cheltenham we get the usual call for the ban of horseracing.

This year it is the turn of Ronald Lee of the Worcestershire Vegans & Veggies in this paper 3rd April. Whilst I fully respect his views & beliefs, I do not agree with them.

If you look at the statistics provided by the British Horseracing Authority, jump racing accounts for just over 4 fatalities in every thousand runners. Each fatality is of course tragic, but there is an accepted risk.

Vets are always on course to ensure the horse is fit to race & provide quick treatment in accidents aswell as the on course ambulance, & all the surfaces & jumps are inspected, so Mr Lee,s view that racing should be banned & Worcester racecourse closed is completely incorrect.
