Sir - A few days ago, I spied a few council workmen at the notorious Whittington island slip road, shortly followed by it being coned off.

Work presumably due to start after the late night oil burning of the council thought I. Whilst coned off, driving the island was such a pleasurable and safe experience, I had quite forgotten how easy it was.

Following the long anticipated works I fail to see what improvements have actually been made. Signage on the slip road is in overkill mode, when the problem is equally down to local drivers jumping the queue by turning left at the island. Nothing there though.

I have been for a long time at a total loss to understand Councillor Geraghty's persistence in leaving this very dangerous slip road open, despite many warnings from members of the public, who aren't making a political point ,but a safety one.

I can only assume now that he is frightened of having to explain why he has spent so much money on such a dangerous waste of time. There can be no other reason any more.

But today...again..I get a call from a family member saying they will be late. The slip road is closed. Ambulance and two police cars are there. Another accident.

Enough is enough Councillor Geraghty. This isn't worth it any more. You are playing with people's lives now. Enough. Close it. Before someone dies.
