SIR - I can't see why Mr Mugabe bothered to call an election.

It now seems pretty obvious that he didn't win the presidency, otherwise he would have released the result by now.

In theory Zimbabwe doesn't have a president while the results are in limbo.

Western governments should start talking to members of the opposition because as things stand even the high court appears not to be able to give the results.

Is this through fear of Mugabe's thugs and cronies?

To put people in hospital after beating them up for voting for the opposing party is totally outrageous. Like Saddam, the pack of cards will come face up one day.
