SIR - In the years before I retired, I had to call on hundreds of people of all levels of intelligence and intellect.

I was able to see for myself the beneficial effects of many of George Cowley's letters. Sadly, there are still many people out there who have suffered mental disorders. They desperately need to communicate but are often denied the opportunity by unsympathetic individuals who are too aloof.

George has been through it all himself and knows just how to appeal to people whom others so often scorn. May he long continue to do so.

JOHN HINTON, Worcester.
