SIR - Mr Brown was very good as the chancellor. He steered the country pretty evenly for the last 10 years but he seems to have made a mess up on the lowering of the tax rate which has hit many poor pensioners.
Pensioners want jam today - not tomorrow - because they have had a rough deal since Thatcher's days.
