SIR – Congratulations are due to the governors, staff and students of Elgar High School, for the huge improvement in their GCSE results, which was, I’m sure, the result of a vast amount of very hard work.

To have improved from 33 per cent A-C, to 42 per cent in a year, given the problems and disruption the school has experienced, is a great achievement. I hope all members of parliament and parliamentary candidates will stop their childish sniping at each other long enough, to offer their congratulations, as, I hope, will the relevant county councillors.

I hope the school will now be allowed a period of stability so that they may build on this success and continue on the path of improvement, as I’m sure it will now do.

Could I also encourage all parents of students to congratulate, support and encourage the school, as well as their offspring, as this will be of great importance to the schools future progress.

THE REV JENNIE HAYWARD, Worcester.
