SIR – Brian Hunt makes a number of points in his letter (August 26) with which I agree.
It is certainly true that elderly residents in Worcester’s three very sheltered accommodation centres have been strongly supported in their campaign to save hot meal provision by Labour councillors. I was personally appalled when first told of this proposal and remain so now. Having frequently visited Chelmsford Court in my ward to speak to residents, I view this cutback to be the worst outrage in a catalogue of ill-considered and arrogant spending priorities at County Hall.
I can assure the people affected that political support has most definitely not vanished and that Labour city and county councillors are utterly opposed to this policy.
Sadly, we do not have control of the county council at present and as much as we have tried have only so far succeeded in delaying implementation and to an extent mitigating the effects.
I would suggest that Brian attend the council debates to see the consistency with which we challenge these spending policies and can tell him this cutback is being called in for further scrutiny with a view to its reversal.
SIMON CRONIN, City councillor, Nunnery ward, Worcester
