SIR – As both a supporter and shareholder of Worcester City Football Club I am deeply concerned about the future of the club.
It was recently confirmed at a public meeting that the club’s debts are now £2 million and that the St George’s Lane ground has been sold for £7 million. It was also revealed that £1.5 million was required to buy land and pay for infrastructure at the proposed site of the new ground at Nunnery Way.
This leaves just £3.5 million to pay for a stadium, which as yet there is no planning application for.
I am also concerned that the latest accounts for 2006/07 were due to be received by Companies House on March 31, 2008 and yet are still overdue.
A group of shareholders are apparently trying to take over the club and save it but the current board of directors will not stand aside. I sincerely hope that the board of Worcester City Football Club sees sense and allows this group to rescue the club from disappearing altogether.
DAVID ETHERIDGE, Worcester.
