SIR – I have just come from the last event of the Worcester Festival, the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain at Huntingdon Hall.
What wonderful, accomplished and hilarious entertainment.
They are a fine example of British genius that we all need to recognise and celebrate demonstrating high musical ability, which they refuse to take seriously. They even send themselves up and the audience is in stitches, clamouring for more at the end.
I have a serious proposal.
Make them the centrepiece of the 2012 London Olympics.
Both music and humour are an international language that transcends differences and divisions.
And in the UOGB we have a peculiar and distinctive Britishness we should be proud to show the rest of the world. So join the campaign – UOGB for 2012.
CHARLES EDEN, Malvern.
