SIR – Further to Bernard Mew’s follow-up letter (November 6) regarding City Life magazine. I feel I should make it clear that this magazine was not brought about to be a profit-making publication, but to inform, raise awareness and consult directly with each household within the city boundary.

Although City Life does not produce a profit it does bring about considerable savings elsewhere in the authority and it is now seen (as an example) by our urban environment service to be an essential communication tool for them on matters of planning and development requiring consultation.

The joint core strategy, local diversity and the local development framework have appeared in many issues and City Life is a very good vehicle to disseminate such information. The magazine is raising awareness, it is a very useful and effective tool to make information available to all our residents.

If, in the future, it does make a profit, then that will be a bonus and it’s something we will actively work towards, but it must not be forgotten that it saves us large sums of money that would otherwise be spent on space in commercial publications and separate leaflets plus delivery costs. City Life does not make a loss, it does carry a cost, but at a much reduced level than other publication options.

COUN ROGER KNIGHT, Worcester City Council.
