SIR – There have been two generations in our family who worked with some pride for the BBC in the days when contracts were of a reasonable length and standards were high.

Current BBC trustees have patently failed in their obligations to monitor standards and should have been given the push. It is indeed a disgrace that Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross should have been allowed such latitude.

They are in my view a dishevelled, drivelling talentless couple. Give me Boy George any day.

I went to see him at Cheltenham last night.

It was a family show attracting all ages. His performance was first class and his makeup immaculate.

I am in no doubt who deserves to sweep the streets. The millions of pounds that are used to pay these two people is set against broadcasters and journalists losing their jobs and being compelled to accept short-term contracts.

WENDY HANDS,

Upton-on-Severn.
