SIR – Having just read the news of the closure of Bilford Road Post Office, it proves that it was already a foregone conclusion to close it before the consultations took place.

So the effect is that the post office services have now done to our post offices what Dr Beeching did to the railways about 40 years ago. I only hope that the able bodied persons at the Post Office will hang their heads in shame and think of the disservice they have done to the disabled and the elderly because, as your editorial pointed out, it has been a complete sham with the so-called consultation, when in effect it was cut and dried from the start like the ambulance service was last year.

My question now is will the Post Office pay my taxi fares to and from the nearest post office in Ombersley Road because I dare not risk driving my mobility scooter across the two main roads to get there and back again.

NORMAN M DUNKLEY,

Worcester.
