SIR – I heartily agree with your comments on June 18, regarding petrol prices.
When petrol was at its highest – £1.20 a litre – a barrel crude oil was 150 dollars a barrel, the price now is about 80 dollars a barrel. Taking into account the tax rise by 2p the value of the pound against the dollar is less (although now rising daily) therefore petrol should be no more than 80p a litre.
Surely it is time the supermarkets started a petrol pump price war? It worked before so why not now? You quite rightly say the motorist is partly to blame. About one mile from where I get my petrol another station is selling it at 3p a litre less. With the number of cars on their forecourt you would think they were giving it away.
J NORWOOD,
Kidderminster.
