SIR – The county council cannot understand the loss of patronage at the Worcester north park and ride site.

Could it be that commuters have discovered that they can park all day on the roadside for free within half a mile of the city centre?

Hundreds, more than a thousand, do so every working day yet the county council does nothing to move these people into pay car parks.

Were they to take action, if only 25 per cent were moved off the streets, the park and ride would be full, the potential revenue from on-street parking would pay for more park and ride schemes and congestion would be eased.

Do our county councillors ever look around as they drive from home to County Hall?

A recent letter to the editor asked why there is still no left-turn from Seabright Avenue into London Road. It will be due to the traffic light sequence but if, as has been suggested elsewhere, there was an all-ways crossing period for pedestrians at that junction, a left-turn could be re-introduced. I had hoped that barriers were to be part of the new set-up on the junction but without them I fear we will still run the risk of suicidal parents teaching their children bad habits across London Road.
