SIR – I feel I must answer the letter from Mr J Hickton regarding the removal of fish from Offerton Lane Nature Reserve (September 23).

You don’t describe the people that fished there as anglers but call them morons. Having been an angler for 60 years I do object being classed as a moron.

If, as you say, many of you have complained over a long period of time, why has the owner, or the powers-that-be that you complained to, taken so long to do anything about it. You go on to say the ducks, coots, moorhens and swans will probably return in their numbers because there will be no anglers there. Then you say they don’t fish the nearby canal because they will need a licence. It appears that your egotistical prejudice and lack of knowledge had clouded your judgement, because you need a licence wherever you fish in the river board catchment area. Lastly the canal is fished quite regularly and if you walked the stretch from Diglis basin to Perdiswell you will find an abundance of wildlife.

Worcester.
