Sir – I would like to take issue with the article by James Savage, concerning the Fern Road lamppost (September 21). The most glaring incorrect fact stated was that the lamp-post is “right in the middle of the footpath”.

Either I need to sue my opticians or the Worcester News photographer has taken the photo at a funny angle, but that lamppost is pretty near to the kerb, in relation to the rest of the pavement.

After 35 years it causes one problem, warrants a big article and county council action. How unfortunate for Mrs Day, having said parked cars are a problem, the photo shows a clear road, and more importantly, no apparent parking restrictions. Therefore the cars, if not parked illegally, had every right to be there.

As for blind people walking into it. How many blind people are likely to have walked down Fern Road in the last 35 years? Before I am labelled unsympathetic, I deal with disabled/frail people on a weekly basis, some with walking frames/wheelchairs. I am merely commenting on what appears to be a “mountain being made out of a mole hill” .
