SIR – So Worcestershire Cricket Club has had a bad season. It hasn’t always been the case, as Michael Grundy reminds us when browsing through the archives.

True, 1958 was a similar season when a promising team dropped to 14th in the table. Success came in 1989 when, for the second year in a row, the county had won the championship. Now in 2009 it’s been all doom and gloom. However, that is cricket, as no team can win all the time. After all it’s only a game! Worcestershire will rise again.

PHIL PEGLER,
Worcester.
