SIR – With reference to the letter from Stephen Cope, (September 19).

Personally, I am not involved with the fuel industry in any way, but I do realise that the nearer you are to a fuel depot and the large conurbations, the cheaper fuel is.

I must say I do feel sorry for independent garages and filling stations. The cost of buying thousands of gallons of fuel at wholesale prices and getting very little return on vast outlay must be very daunting indeed.

My own belief on various pricing within the country as a whole would be to introduce a pricing structure nationwide on petrol, diesel, gas, electricity, water and telephone calls so wherever you purchase from, anywhere in the country, the prices would be the same.

This would also allow big and small business to compete on a level playing field.

Hallow.
