SIR – I would like to put on record an act of kindness to me by a complete stranger.

I was in the queue to go into the cricket ground at New Road to watch the final match of the season against Sussex. As I got to the turnstile to pay to go into the ground a gentleman who was in the queue behind me tapped me on the shoulder and offered me a ticket for the match which he had spare.

I offered to pay him for the ticket but he declined my offer. In this day and age it is a rare event for someone to offer something for no return, so if the gentleman who gave me the ticket is reading this, may I offer you my sincere thanks for your kindness.

Hugh Raymer,
Worcester.
