SIR – I am glad the Mercian Regiment is marching in Worcester.

However, I think it is disappointing that this is the second time they have marched on a weekday when many people are at work and are unable to give them the welcome they deserve. I could take a day’s holiday tomorrow, but at this time of the year it would leave my employer in the lurch. Oh, and unlike some, I don’t throw ‘sickies’.

I would like to register my thanks publicly to the soldiers for their hard work in dangerous areas and in extreme conditions, especially with the continued lack of adequate means with which to fight the war in Afghanistan. Some don’t agree with the war but these are our boys and girls being put into the frontline in these conditions.

As a combat veteran myself, I salute them and all our forces engaged in this effort. May God bless you all.
