SIR – So the cabbies want CCTV in their cabs but want the council tax payers to pay for it (Worcester News, November 27).

I agree that CCTV is a very good idea but why should local taxpayers fund it?

As far as I am aware, all of the cabs are operated as a business, mainly by owner/drivers. Others are owned by the taxi firms.

All other businesses who wish to have security pay for it themselves out of their income, so why should cabbies feel that they should be treated differently?

The local bus companies have it installed but pay for it themselves.

Tariq Hussain says: “Are we waiting for someone to die before you (Worcester City Council) do something? Or is it up to us to sort it out ourselves?”

My answer is: “Yes, sort it out yourselves.”

Surely a life is worth more than the few hundred pounds it would take to install the CCTV system in each cab?
