sir – The EU empire, December 1, took over control of our gas and electricity supplies. They already control our food supplies and prices with the Common Agricultural and Fisheries policies which means our food costs 15 per cent more than it should.

They can, from now, force the British Government to adopt whatever climate change policies they come up with and they now also control the distribution of international aid. The British Government no longer has a veto over these or many other policy areas. More than 40 areas of policy which we could previously veto if they were contrary to our interests now come under majority control.

We are now under the control of an unelected president and commissars who live in the lap of luxury and have just awarded themselves a seven per cent pay increase.

They are already better paid than any UK politician and even the president of the USA. We can no longer afford to stay in the EU. We must get out and save the £50 billion it costs every year.

Mark Starr, Leigh Sinton.
