SIR – I agree with some of the points made by Mr Stone in Worcester News regarding a plan to help cyclists.

Yes, wear helmets, and yes, bikes should be well maintained, just as cars need to have an MOT.

But, I would just like to say as both a cyclist and a driver (which means I have paid my road tax and will use the road), car drivers should also remember the highway code when giving space to cyclist.

Countless times cars have been close to my handlebars where they try to squeeze past me and an oncoming car. I understand everyone needs to get somewhere, but surely drivers, cyclist and pedestrians can all get to their destinations safely if everyone using roads uses their common sense.

Perhaps cyclists need to feature more in driving lessons and vice-versa.
