SIR – Regarding the letters from Paul Kehoe and Rick Jones (November 28) on Birmingham airport. Both gentlemen are wrong.

The way to solve Birmingham airport’s problem is to shut it.

Loony Labour are going to tax our CO2 emissions for all they are worth and, with a trip across the Atlantic producing three tonnes of CO2 per passenger, the airline industry should be shut down.

A trip to Barry Island was sufficient for my generation.

We managed without foreign holidays, so why can’t today’s generation?

With loony Labour advertising that motorists should drive five miles fewer each week, to “slash” our CO2 emissions, why aren’t aeroplanes the subject of similar advertising, when they produce at least 50 per cent more CO2 per passenger mile than cars do?

N TAYLOR,
Worcester.
