SIR - With reference to the letter from Jim Evans on faith schools (Worcester News, March 27) I would like to say that religion is one of the achievements and fulfilments of the human spirit - some people would say the highest.

Division and conflicts are not caused by religion but by human selfishness, greed, ignorance, fear and deceit. Religion - as well as philosophy, belief and science - is a logical and ethical system of values that faith schools teach and point out but cannot force, as our opinions are the product of contingencies as well as of choice.

JOHN E IEBOLE,

Worcester.
