SIR - When Christopher Whitehead School was opened in 1934 it had been built with the exclusive intention of accommodating fewer than 200 children from the defunct St Clement's School. Since that time, educational requirements have changed many times. The school has been extended, adapted, modified and bodged up many times to meet changing requirements and its inadequacies have been quite apparent to me over a long association dating long before my son-in-law, the current headteacher was even born. I am no authority on such matters but the feasibility of rebuilding on the present site to meet current or future requirements seems questionable. Within a decade or so, the decision will have to be taken to rebuild and the county council has understandably left that decision to its successors.
