SIR - You might have expected a lot more reaction to the proposals for building 10,000 houses on greenfield sites on the periphery of Worcester.
Your initial editorial comment probably got it right - there's no objection to sensitive additional building but any steamroller plan that would destroy the very essence of the city we cherish most is surely unacceptable.
Apparently, there is to be a long consultation and Worcester's Civic Society will be keen to give this scheme a close looking over. Are there, for instance, any affordable homes this time round?
Hopefully, other groups and organisations will also be examining the plans and reporting back. For a development on this scale, the city council ought to be commissioning an independent environmental assessment.
J CARPENTER,
Worcester Civic Society.
