SIR – John Isner playing at Wimbledon had to play for 11 hours over three days to beat Nicholas Mahut, 70-68 in the 5th set. Even so, John had to play again next day in the next round (normally they get a rest the next day if possible). Perhaps our footballers could benefit from some tennis training, in more ways than one.
