SIR – I was very concerned to read of the 21 sheep killed when a trailer overturned (Worcester News, October 22).

There must be regulations governing transport of farm animals but I would have said that 80 sheep was a lot for that trailer to be carrying, even spread over two levels. Perhaps in the interests of welfare they were jammed in to stop them falling about!

Would we like to travel like that?

It didn't look as if the trailer had been properly, if at all, secured to the flatbed.

No doubt the farmer will be compensated for the 21 dead sheep, but I would like to know if he is being prosecuted for lack of animal welfare and/or the unroadworthiness of the vehicle.

It was fortunate it didn’t cause a much bigger accident.
