SIR - Congratulations to Councillor Clarke and the Worcester News for their efforts in ensuring Kays pavilion will not be knocked down with the conservation order now in place. Unfortunately, days earlier, demolition workers removed about 75 per cent of the roofing tiles, gutted part of the inside and smashed the flower beds at the front of the building.
It is a few weeks since the partial destruction of this lovely building took place and it appears that no effort has been made to protect it from the elements, not even putting a cover over the roof to reduce further damage. Who is responsible for the protection of this building - Littlewoods the owners, the demolition company or the council?
If nothing happens the weather will ensure the building falls into a state of disrepair and the inevitable demolition. Perhaps this was the intention all along?
ALAN MATTHEWS,
Ex-Kays cricket captain.
