SIR – Cuts, cuts – cutting the lecturers and the education of youngsters is definitely the wrong thing to do – they are the country’s future.

Again attacking the young by cutting the youth service centres is another wrong way to go about things.

The council should amalgamate and have stronger purchasing power to get better deals from the bus service for instance.

Another way is to sack half the councillors – there are far too many. Then people at the top, cut their huge salaries and maybe that way you won’t have to get rid of anyone.

And the council must work to a budget and not ask for more council tax every year.
