SIR – In your article concerning poor care revealed at the Alexandra Hospital (Worcester News, June 3) the chairman of the Acute Hospitals NHS Trust Harry Turner is reported as saying, “We have 6,000 staff, all of whom do an exceptional job every day”.

Exaggerated selfcongratulation sits ill with the slipshod practices revealed in the report and is insulting to staff.

It will take good leadership to resolve these performance problems, not ill-thought-out defensiveness.

Mr Turner has revealed at least one of the 6,000 who is perhaps less than exceptional.
