SIR – Malcolm Walford’s Stonehall United days brought back memories to me, as I played them when I was with Pinvin United about 1955. I will never forget the leather ball which could increase to double its original weight in rain and mud, and the effect it could have on one if not headed correctly.
I wish we could have played with a plastic ball. They don’t know how lucky they are today.
