SIR – The mainstream media and politicians say that public opinion is against today’s pension strikes.
However, they don’t seem too concerned about public opinion when the majority are against a war or NHS privatisation.
The Government is complaining about the turnouts in recent ballots for strikes among public sector workers, claiming that there’s no democratic mandate for strikes.
We should take no lectures from the likes of David Cameron – just 25 per cent of those eligible to vote backed the Tories in last year’s election.
The Government wants to divide workers into ‘public’ and ‘private’ and set the sectors against each other.
If hundreds of thousands of public sector workers strike and stop the Government’s assault, it will give private sector workers confidence to fight for better pensions.
