SIR – I now live abroad but as an ex-citizen of Worcester I love to visit my old county.
But on arriving in Worcester by train the other weekend I had the misfortune to be hit by the sight of the new building in The Butts.
At first I thought I was in Amritsar in India and was seeing the golden temple.
What on earth possessed the city council to agree to the planning of this?
I thought Worcester was the cathedral city. I think that it’s a disgrace.
Worcester is a beautiful city but it has been spoiled over the last 40 years or so with the knocking down of some lovely parts. I was born in Wyld’s Lane in what is now the Commandery grounds.
My father was a compositer for Littlebury’s the Printers.
We lived in the house – now knocked down – next door to Brownings opposite the park.
It was a lovely part of Worcester and it’s very sad now to see all the alterations.
Thanks for reading my grumbles but I had to say something about the golden monstrosity.
