Sir – We are about to lose a very important person from the city of Worcester. Vince Treagus, the local PC for the city centre, is being forcibly retired out of West Mercia Police force due to his age, despite being fit and active. Vince is 56 on Friday.

The community wants him to continue and he is willing and able to fulfil all his duties.

Vince has been a local police officer in Worcester since 1993.

He has combined old-fashioned policing with the role of the modern policeman of today in a changing society. He has earned respect from the diverse communities in Worcester and formed good working relationships with regular users of the city centre.

He took the trouble to learn Urdu and read the Koran so he knows and understands the culture of the Asian community.

To many of the youth in the city who have grown up with him being around he is known as PC Vince. PC Vince is invaluable to the policing of the city and stops trouble before it starts.

We want Worcester city centre to continue as a safe, secure, low crime area. The ‘rules’ of West Mercia Police say that PC Vince must go. I think they should urgently reconsider the rules (or bend them) and allow PC Treagus to continue doing a good job as our local police officer.
