SIR – I wonder if I may say a huge thank you through your newspaper.

On August 6 I was lucky enough to be part of a vintage tea in aid of raising funds for meningitis charities and to raise awareness of this disease.

We raised a fantastic total and it was incredibly well attended. This event was so successful thanks to a lot of people – some made or donated cakes, some sent donations if they couldn’t be there, others worked tirelessly on the day behind the scenes – prizes were donated and won and so many more came for a cuppa and cake. I would particularly like to thank Trudy Burge and Jane Keen Smith for all the work that they did. It would not have been possible without them.

We had a representative from the Meningitis Trust, Judith Selby, on hand to give out information on this horrible disease.

Meningitis can affect anyone, age is no boundary.

Hopefully if more people know the signs and symptoms we can maybe save some lives. The after-effects are so many that I couldn’t possibly list them but thanks to charities like the Meningitis Trust help can be given, even if it’s someone just to listen. A massive thanks again to all involved.
