SIR – Although not born in Worcestershire my late father Len Walford was born in Wadborough and due to railway services was moved to various parts of the Midlands. I have lived in Worcestershire since 1948.

I played in goal for several Worcester teams including Stonehall United, Broughton Rangers, Kempsey and Seven Stoke. I recently retired from the Croome Estate after serving the estate for 56 years. Yes, I think I have won my Worcestershire cap. I feel very proud to call Worcestershire my home.

Your picture of Worcester Cathedral once upon a time when you got off the train at Shrub Hill and looked west – there was the cathedral in all its glory – what a wonderful site to greet people arriving at Worcester.

But now what do you see? That horrible office block Elgar House obscuring this wonderful view.

Yes, there is lots to talk about improving this area. Why has someone not suggested getting rid of this awful building?

We are very lucky to have such a wonderful city as Worcester and after all these years, I am proud to say I come from Worcestershire.

Sorry if I have gone on, but I think it’s about time people started looking after the city.

Mr Walford
Strensham
