SIR – Both David Cameron and Nick Clegg talked tough on immigration during the election campaign, yet they have failed to deliver their promises of curbing immigration.
Latest figures show that last year 239,000 people migrated to Britain, the second highest figure on record.
Immigration is not a question of race, it’s a question of maths.
Add 200,000 people a year to our population and you are overloading public services to breaking point. At this rate the population will hit 70 million in 2025.
Immigration is an issue that sees even the most tolerant in our society accused of racism.
That is mostly why our leaders make their promises to win votes and then sweep the issue under the carpet post-election hoping we will forget.
This country is not a hotel, and if we were then we are full – sorry no vacancies.
Which other country says people can come in with nothing and we will give you everything – money, housing, free healthcare, education for your children and great human rights, so if you commit a crime you can stay and sue for compensation.
