SIR - The pending catastrophic effect on humanity from global warming is not fully understood by the vast majority of people, but leading scientific minds who comprehend the world's most destructive force now say that we have a mere three decades to put into motion the means to negate this for future generations.

After that there will be no turning back. Priorities have to be set in place by governments to prevent this ultimate catastrophe happing on a scale never witnessed before by man.

For the solution we have to look at the ever escalating energy production and the pollution that this brings.

The number one culprit of pollution is the energy created by coal. People talk about oil, but coal burning is our main problem as China, India and the West et al continue to use it as their primary source for electricity generation.

When one considers that a substantial amount of Chinese and Indian coal is also riddled with medium-high grade sulphur and that these and all developing nations are not a party to the Kyoto Treaty until after 2012, the world is on a course of unimaginable ecological and environmental change, especially when one considers that energy production from coal is projected to triple by 2025.
