SIR - In answer to George Cowley's recent letter, the original oak tree in which Charles II sought refuge did not survive long into the Restoration due to the effect of souvenir hunters.
However, a storm-damaged descendant still exists on the site at Boscobel House (English Heritage) near Bishops Wood, Shropshire.
