SIR – On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, an Armistice was signed to end the First World War.

Millions of service personnel from the British Empire, and beyond, gave their lives in the war set to end all wars.

Sadly, as history later proved, this was not to be just over 20 years later the Second World War began.

Once again, our servicemen and women did their duty. This year’s Poppy Appeal will be focusing their support for the Afghan generation of the Armed Forces family. With this conflict continuing at its current intensity it is inevitable that the number of individuals needing the help of the appeal has rapidly increased.

It is for this and every conflict since, that on Remembrance Sunday we have the privilege to honour the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The people of Malvern Hills district have a proud record of supporting those who have served their country and continue to do so today.

This is why every community throughout the district will, on November 14, hold their own Remembrance Services and on Thursday, November 11, at 11am, a two-minute silence will be observed.

The Poppy Appeal team is also hoping to attract new Poppy Appeal volunteers.

If you would be interested in helping, contact 0800 0855924 - anyone over the age of 16 can help.

Please do your bit to support the Poppy Appeal by wearing your poppy with pride and donating to this very worthy cause.
