SIR – James Connell’s article on hard hats at the Hive ‘Hat’s not the way to do it as workers feel the big freeze’ (Worcester News, December 21) at least cleared my mind that they were not for protection from bees.

The present return to milder weather may solve the problem, if only temporarily.

It is a fact that one loses a third of our body heat through the head, so if health and safety is saying that wearing a beannie under the hard hat is unsafe, why are they ignoring the regulation that says that one should not allow oneself to get into a state of hypothermia?

Surely office workers should try out the manual workers’ conditions before jumping to conclusions and ensure that health and safety comes up with a solution to the problem.
