SIR – I am writing to say thank you to everyone from Hereford and Worcestershire who supported the Meningitis Trust during 2011.

At the trust we rely on the generosity of individuals to continue our vital work; supporting anyone affected by meningitis with free professional services, as well as raising lifesaving awareness of the disease and its symptoms.

For the many people who have been, and continue to be, affected by meningitis, and for those who will sadly be affected in the future, we are a lifeline.

For more than 25 years we have developed our support and now reach about 20,000 people each year making sure everyone affected gets support for life.

There are more than 500,000 people affected by meningitis in the UK and unfortunately we will see more cases of the disease this winter.

We are determined to be here for each and every one who has been affected.

We need to raise more than £8,000 every day – that’s £3 million a year – to continue our work helping people after meningitis.

We would also like to say a huge thank you to everyone who signed our education campaign petition, which has now reached 4,000.
