SIR – I’d like to reassure former Labour councillor Richard Bird (Worcester News, December 22) that Worcester City Council does not want to “get rid of the smaller play areas in the city and just have three larger play parks” as he said in his letter.

This kind of ill-informed scaremongering is shameful; we already have at least three super play areas at Gheluvelt, Cripplegate and King George IV and many other well-equipped locations.

What we are doing is conducting a review of all play facilities in the city and the idea of creating any more ‘super’ play areas may be considered as just one of several ideas under consideration.

We know this is an area that needs investing in and we have set aside an additional annual amount of £100,000 in the budget for the new financial year to support this.
