SIR – I read your story about the construction company Galliford Try, who said that they would “not compromise” on equipment to protect the workforce’s ears from the cold (Worcester News, December 21).
Isn’t it sad that, 150 years after the Battle of Balaclava, we’re still arguing about protecting people from the cold?
Maybe the ‘jobsworth’, who issued the pompous edict, might spend a day on the rooftop to see for himself?
By the way, you can buy a merino wool under-helmet balaclava for about £15. Ask any motorcyclist.
Come on, Galliford Try, buy the men the correct equipment.
