SIR – The amount of publicity, planning meetings and leaflets produced over the last few years regarding proposed changes to Crookbarrow Way, running parallel to St Peter’s in Worcester, has been overwhelming.

Greatly underwhelming has been the communication between the council and local residents as to dates and times of the actual works being carried out.

On Monday, June 11, I found myself being woken to the sound of industrial digging and grinding.

This continued for much of the night – there had been no notice of this going ahead to any of the residents.

On Wednesday, June 13, there appeared to be much less noise and I went to bed earlier.

I went to check on my daughter in her room but when I opened her door I was hit by an appalling smell of tar.

There she lay, asleep, breathing this vile odour into her lungs.

She had kept her window slighly ajar as she was feeling hot.

I would like any council to convince me that this is safe practice, which takes into account the health and safety of its local ward.
