SIR – Re the letter by J Mahoney ‘Pool plan is great, but it’s not a priority’ (Worcester News, June 26).
The pool/leisure proposal is for £13 million but the council does not have this money.
The money will have to come from project-related grants and from loans based on the ability of the complex to repay those loans.
The bonus for the city though is that the new complex will generate a profit while the current split site provisions costs us £346,000 every year in sudsidy.
It is this surplus that the council can look to use.
I agree with J Mahoney that the new complex will have far-reaching and long-lasting benefits for the whole of the city, be it health, sports, visitors, image and reputation.
I am pleased all parties, officers and the Worcester News (June 22) support the proposals and I look forward to constructive and complete consultation when the issues can be overcome.
