SIR – Re the revamp of Foregate Street station in Worcester (Worcester News, September 22).
The city council are reiterating my concerns expressed back in June that this is a once in a generation opportunity about to be missed.
If Worcester City Council’s planning committee, planning officers and conservation officers are unable to achieve an impact upon the county council’s public consultation there can be no hope for members of the public.
Simon Geraghty [city council leader] argues that there is insufficient money to do a proper job and that this is the best we can expect. Any points we may wish to make, any improvements, are already being disregarded on the basis of cost.
These works will cause significant disruption to rail passengers and to road traffic on Foregate Street for what will be, for some, a surprisingly long time.
Only then will we see if it was worth it or not.
I agree (for once) with the city council that it will not be much different to the station we know now – a very disappointing outcome.
