SIR – A very interesting post appeared on the Worcester News website (worcesternews.co.uk) at 12.50pm on Thursday 27 in response to the story ‘Allah Ditta – no confidence’.

I’m surprised that local politicians haven’t spotted it, or realised its significance.

The comment was placed on behalf of Conservative councillor Aubrey Tarbuck and makes clear that Coun Tarbuck would in all likelihood have voted in favour of the motion to remove Mr Ditta from the leadership of two committees for bringing the city council into disrepute.

It’s important to remember that most politicians do enter public life for the best of motives, and understand the consequences of breaking the public’s trust. Over the past few days, two Conservative councillors have been sacked by their respective leaderships – one for joking about the recent shootings in Manchester and the other, a Worcestershire county councillor [Stephen Clee], following internal disputes and the ultimate sin, for refusing to deliver leaflets (Worcester News, September 25). It’s a pity the ‘men in grey suits’ didn’t pay Mr Ditta a visit. Perhaps if they had, and pragmatic voices such as Coun Tarbuck had been heeded, the current situation would have resolved itself.

As it is, the longer this story runs the greater the impact on the reputation of the city, its elected representatives and the communities that it serves.
